🎙️ Behind the Mic
I created the KRYVR River Radio Show as a clean, family-friendly podcast because I believe it's time to reclaim some territory in the world of entertainment. So much of today’s media feels coarse, cynical, or just plain unwatchable—and like many others, I found myself retreating to reruns from gentler times.
For years, I’ve been writing clean, humorous fiction and wishing there were more wholesome shows I could enjoy. Then, after some thoughtful coaching with my husband Pete, it finally dawned on me:
Why not create the kind of show I’ve been searching for? This podcast is my answer—a nostalgic, lighthearted audio show for people who love stories, appreciate clean humor, and want something comforting to listen to while they live their lives.
Meet Julie Morrill
Hi, I’m Julie Morrill—retired high school teacher turned radio show producer, podcaster, writer, and life calling coach with True North Quests. I’m also a happy wife to my husband Pete and proud mom to five grown kids.
I spent several years teaching English, history, and economics, always weaving humor, storytelling, and life lessons into grammar rules and historical facts. These days, I channel that same creative energy into writing and producing the KRYVR Retro River Radio Show, where quirky characters and cozy tales take center stage.
When I’m not recording in my home studio (a large, oddly shaped closet with a low ceiling from which I’ve received more than one bonk on the head), you’ll likely find me:
• Filming Labrador retrievers or training puppies for our family business, Marble Mountain Kennels
• Gardening and hanging out with my chickens
• Writing, writing, writing
• People-watching or reminiscing with old friends for story ideas
• Or planning my next overseas adventure with my husband, family, and friendsWherever I am, I’m always collecting inspiration.
Where It All Began
My stories are rooted in the rich tapestry of both my childhood and adult life. Growing up along the Scott and Klamath Rivers, raising my family in the hidden corners of Scott Valley, and spending meaningful years in small towns like Jacksonville and Medford, Oregon—all of it has filled my life with humor, heart, and a steady stream of daily adventures.
My experiences extend beyond the backroads, too. Living in Europe, working at the California State Capitol, teaching junior high, studying at UCLA, and forming friendships with international students have all added flavor and perspective to my writing. I believe that down-home spirit—blended with a touch of wanderlust—continues to shape everything I write.
💛 Why I Do This
I believe stories connect us—whether they come from historical novels, funny animals, or fictional places like the Kiskatoon River. Thanks for tuning in. I’m so glad you’re here.
Meet Jim Bob James (a.k.a. My Son, James Simon)
If you’ve tuned in to the KRYVR River Radio Show, chances are you’ve heard the voice of our very own “station manager,” Jim Bob James—played by none other than my son, James Simon. James brings a lovable, slightly deadpan energy to the mic that always makes me laugh, even during recording.
In real life, James is pursuing a career in the culinary arts and currently studies the craft of brewing, distilling, and winemaking through an online program based in England. His current dream? To one day work as a chef and distiller at Denny Bar Co. in our own country town of Etna, California.
When he’s not acting on the show or experimenting in the kitchen, you’ll find him volunteering at church, target shooting, playing frisbee golf with friends, or just making life a little more fun for everyone around him.
It’s a joy to create this show with him—and a gift to share both family and fiction with all of you.
And if you’d like to lend your voice to the show, I’m always open to volunteers!
Whether you’re a seasoned storyteller or just curious about giving voice acting a try, I’d love to hear from you. No experience necessary—just a love for characters, creativity, and clean fun.
